What is Domain Authority

Domain Authority is a search engine ranking factor used for determining performance of websites on SERPs. It is measured on a scale of 1-100 where 100 score is the best and 1 is the worst. High score shows ability to rank well on search results. Developed by Moz, Domain Authority is determined by evaluating factors including MozRank, MozTrust and number of total links.

How to check DA?

A checking tool is needed to determine Domain Authority of a site. First tool is Moz open site explorer where you can check DA of your website by entering the domain or sub-domain URL of your site in the tool. Chrome and Firefox users should use MozBar extension to check authority of websites. Domain Authority of a website contains 40+ signals.

What is high Domain Authority?

Technically speaking, websites with 100 ranks are high authority domains. Wikipedia and Google.com are examples of domains with high authority. It isn’t difficult to increase authority of a domain but it is challenging. Wikipedia scores high on Moz scale because it has large number of outbound links.

Newly launched websites start with Rank 1 on Moz and grow with time. The new sites have to work hard to build external links from high authority domains in order to increase their DA.

How to build Domain Authority?

There are many things you can do to improve DA of your site but you should pay attention to mistakes you can make when focusing on the DA. Expiry of the domain name is a factor in deciding DA. Search engines favor long lasting domains hence it is good, if you can renew your domain for long time.

Other factors in DA building are your website links; how diversify the links are; structure of internal linking; website downloading speed; digital marketing and your status in your niche.
